tv conspiracy

A quote by Steve Jobs

When you're young, you look at television and think, There's a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down. But when you get a little older, you realize that's not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want. That's a far more depressing thought. Conspiracy is optimistic! You can shoot the bastards! We can have a revolution! But the networks are really in business to give people what they want. It's the truth.

The crap dished out on the Indian tv is mind numbingly bad. The actors in those serials go through the complete spectrum of human emotions in 30 minutes (even less than 30 minutes, if you factor in the ads). The really disheartening part about the whole thing is that there is no conspiracy.

  1. It might be convenient to lump all of TV into those serials, but that is constructing generalisations to suit theory. Those channels are for some people, for people like you there are others, for people like me there are still others. That is the best thing about the choice we have on TV in India nowadays. You can choose the mix that suits your personality.

Even though there are those time periods when none of those sensible channels have anything interesting. But I fall prey to this sadistic curiosity of checking what trash is being talked in most of the Hindi news tabloid channels.Sometimes it is fascinating! ;-)

  3. You're dumbing down all of Indian TV, sounds like you were tied down to a chair and made to watch what billions of indian housewives love to watch.
If that's not been the case, use the remote!

  4. @Chad - I have a choice. However, it is still astounding how people can watch the serials.
