Advanced PHP Programming impressions

Got myself "Advanced PHP Programming" by Schlossnagle. I started reading it last night, (currently on chapter 3 - "Error Handling"). Excellent book, with clear and good examples. The examples are culled from real life. In chapter 2 (Object Oriented Programming through Design Patterns), he explains how Design Patterns can be applied when making websites. It was one of those "aha!" moments. This is a book I have been looking forward to lay my hands on for a long time.

One complaint though (with the Pearsons's Low Price Edition of this book) is the pathetic quality of figures. It looks like the pages have been photocopied from their original color print.

Thanks for writing the excellent book and leaving a comment on my blog.

I am myself not sure what the "standard edition" is that you refer to. The book that I got here (in India) has a soft cover and carries a warning label on the top "This edition is manufactured in India and is authorized for sale in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. blah..blah..blah.. is UNAUTHORIZED "

From the way you write your code, I would not think that your standards are lower. Pearsons do have a ‘low quality’ edition. The problem is with the screenshots that you have put in (for example Fig. 1.1 on page 11). I am sure they would look beautiful in colour but they look ugly in black and white :-( . They are still legible though. The diagrams that you have put in do not have such problems.

Hi. Glad you like the book. Sorry the figures suck. Is the 'Low Price Edition' different than the standard edition (I've not heard of such a thing, though they don't tell me about all the formats). I ask because (almost all) the figures look pretty good in my copies and I want to know if my standards are lower or if there's a 'low quality' edition.
